Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Prayin it won't fade away

Zoo Babies

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

A funny thing happened yesterday. Brian and I were watching the survivor season finale and I went to fast forward past the commercials, "No... Wait!" Brian sat wide-eyed watching the Harry Potter movie trailer and then yells, "Hell yeah! We have got to see that!" I giggled to myself (I've totally converted him!) We get onto the Survivor finale and my second favorite Alabama boy, JT, went on to win the million. I was hooting and hollering yelling, "Yay! Alabama! Woo hoo!" (Brian laughed to himself -he's totally converted me!)

So much has been going on lately that I don't know where to start. Kaleb is such a talker now! He babbles on and on... Daddd dad Babbba babababa... OOooooooo.... Dad. Mmmmmmmm..... He cracks us up! He is so incredibly smart. He is laying on a blanket 99% of the time he's on the floor. If we set a toy on the outer edge hoping for him to crawl to get it he does just the opposite. He pulls the blanket toward himself and doesn't move a muscle- it's so bizarre! I am trying to get it on video and I'll be sure to upload it soon. He ate his first stage 3 food tonight- it was so chunky! My amazing babysitter and cousin-in-law Mandi has given him real green beans and fig newton's this week. Somehow his progress over the last few days has really scared me- He's growing so very fast. Too fast. My memory card is full trying to capture every picture and write down each thing I want to remember about these moments. I imagine we'll have a lifetime of this- I just hope it gets easier for me :)

We made a trip to see the zoo babies with the Shankford's this past Sunday. The kids we're so great! They were both laughing, screeching and talking up a storm. The cutest thing happened... Riley went to kiss Kaleb and man did he go for it! Tongue out, mouth open he gave her a big sloppy kiss! It was the sweetest thing I have ever seen. We even stopped in Dairy Queen for some ice cream on the way home. Here are some of my favorite pictures:

Monkey's checking out the Monkey's :)

He is such a big boy!

Riley, Me & Kaleb (Look at K posing- he does that when you get out the camera!)

Mmmmmm Ice Cream!

Just give us the sugar and no one gets hurt.

I have so much more to write but the baby is calling :) More updates soon.

Happy Mother's Day!

Monday, May 11, 2009

Can I just say that my first mother's day was amazing? Beyond amazing. It started the night before when my mom and dad gave us a Red Lobster gift certificate and sent us on our way. Kaleb was such a good boy. He sat in the booth and ate his mashed potatoes. He tried a little bit of everything and was happy with all of it- he is not a picky eater! On Sunday morning I woke up to Brian talking to Kaleb. Since day 1 Brian has been harassing him, say "Dad... Dad...Come on. You can do it!" Of course on Mother's Day Kaleb looks right back at him and says, "Daddddddd dad dad dad dad..." We both freaked out. His first word was Dad and he did it on Mother's Day!Brian scooped him up and told me to go back to sleep. I didn't argue.

A few hours later I get woken up to Brian (with help from Kaleb) carrying in a tray of food. Scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast, bacon, maple sausage- the works. He made me breakfast in bed with help from Kaleb (who had dribbles of everything on my plate down his shirt). I got to open my wonderful gifts too. Brian got me a digital bible. It holds the entire new and old testament and I can search, save, make notes and bookmark pages. It is amazing. The best part? It's not some generic jewelery gift. He really put time and effort into it with NO help from me. Kaleb (with help from his Dad) made me the most amazing keepsake plate. They thought of the craft on their own and I'm shocked at how amazing it turned out.

We spent the morning with his mom and grandparents. I even snuck in a nap! We spent the evening with my mom and dad who made the most amazing baby back ribs I have ever eaten. I got to top the night off with a long bubble bath while Brian put Kaleb to bed. He asked for him anyway, "Daddd dad dad dad..." How could he resist? Too bad Kaleb has no idea what Dad means :)

I'm not exactly what I did to deserve such an amazing fiance or son. I have no idea how they are ever going to top this mother's day. Brian told me to get used to it, the breakfast in bed is going to be his and Kaleb's Mother's Day tradition from now on. Oh how I love my boys :)

And on a side note Kaleb had TWO bottom teeth now. They grow too fast!

Put That Away Mom!

Saturday May 9, 2009

My happy stinker (back to normal besides a little drainage- thank goodness!) He's growing so fast. He can sit up on his own for long periods of time now before toppling or throwing himself over. Usually when he throws himself over it's in an attempt to get the remote or cell phones. We gave him some old remotes and cell phones. I can imagine his thoughts {Yeah mom. I'm smarter than that- I want the ones that light up!} He is starting to cry when we walk out of the room so we are setting a timer to try our best to alleviate the separation anxiety. He slept through the night two nights in a row (knock knock on wood). He loves mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, sour dough pretzels and every BBQ sauce we throw at him. We tend to give him nibbles off our plates and he goes crazy. I cannot wait for the rest of his teeth to come in so we can get onto bigger and better foods. Yummy!
Check how good I can hold my bottle! Woo hoo!

Now he's just showing off. {Look at those big feet!}

"You have a camera Mom! I love that thing!" {Thanks Carter for the cute golf hat!}

"That's it, put the camera away or I'm calling Daddy."

Ok, Ok... silly boy. Tomorrow is Mother's Day- I'm sure my boys have something planned. They never cease to surprise me!

We officially have a tooth. It's not all the way up but it has broken the surface and when he bites down, it freaking hurts. So on top of not feeling well he has the pleasure of cutting teeth. My poor little guy! He's such a trooper though. Here are some pictures from a few weekends ago (before the sickies hit our house...)

Ava. Kaleb. Riley. [He's a chick magnet!]

Did you know those swings were MADE for two babies? It would've been lonely without her.

I made him ride in her pink carseat. [Doesn't the face just say it all?]

His favorite toy. Ever. [Having one hand sure doesn't slow him down-he's got skills!]

It's my first day back to work and I am SERIOUSLY missing my baby. I think I'm going to cut out early and go get my stink.

Happy Blogggggggggggiversary to Me
Happy Blogggggggggggiversary to Me
Happy Blogiversary to me…
Happy Blogggggggggggiversary to Me!

It’s been one year since I started this journey through my pregnancy, birth and first 7 months of my beautiful baby boy’s life. I went back through and reread most of the beginning entries. My goodness, GOD is good. I have had one heck-of-a year if I do say so myself. I have NEVER been more grateful for my writing. I think we are going to print and bind all of the entries for Kaleb’s one year scrapbook in September. So I self indulged and sang myself a song. Happy Anniversary Blog- it’s been a pleasure.

In Other News…

The past 12 days around here have been hell on earth. I guess the very best way for you to understand my pain is to go day by day:

Friday April 24-Sunday April 26: Our happy baby boy starts running a low grade fever. Teeth? We wondered. It certainly fit. Over the weekend his fever got progressively worse. By Sunday night he was 103-104 and we couldn’t break it. A call to his doc had us headed to the drugstore for some Children’s Motrin. It worked for a few hours. By midnight we were packing him in the car and headed up to the Children’s Hospital in West Chester.

Monday April 27: Kaleb has one nasty ear infection in his left ear. It is so bad that he has a tiny tear in the actual drum…..alas…… the reason for the fever. We are told to alternate Motrin and Tylenol for pain and give amoxicillin and ear drops twice a day. It should be over in a week. We got home and Olivia walks upstairs, “I just threw up.” Brian and I scramble to make her and Kaleb comfortable. Poor babies. Olivia swears she ate some bad Chipotle.

Tuesday April 28- Wednesday April 29: Kaleb shows initial improvement and I take him to my grandma’s on Wednesday morning. I do some running for our catering on Thursday. I started feeling really hot on the drive back to the shop…queasy…. Feverish….. I have my mom drive me home. Half way there I’m leaning out the window vomiting. Bad Chipltle? I think not. I scramble to the bathroom where I remain over the next 12 hours keeping nothing down with the most intense painful stomach cramps of my life. Kaleb stays with my mom and dad and is now refusing any type of foods or formula.

Thursday April 30: I am finally resting and have been vomit free for three hours when we have to take Kaleb back to the ER. He is refusing food, cannot breathe out of his nose, wheezing and coughing. The do a chest xray which is clear, no pneumonia. The bring in the big suction and get a good 8-10 tablespoons of phlegm out of his nose. Now that he can breathe he sucks down a 9 ounce bottle in minutes. They send off his culture and it comes back flu free. We head home before lunch.

After his nap he wakes up looks around and vomits all 9 ounces back up onto the floor. We throw him in the tub, ‘too much food too fast’ we think. As soon as he’s dressed from the tub he throws up again. Shit. He has my sickness. “No, no, no….” I keep repeating. This isn’t happening. After tiny sips of pedialyte he is throwing up again. Back to the ER… twice in one day. I tell Brian, “I’m not leaving until they fix him!”

Friday May 1: Kaleb is admitted to the hospital. They attempt to start an IV in his hand. Errrrr… not happening. The nurse is digging around, the tech is holding his legs down, Brian is holding his hand and I’m at the head of his bed. Kaleb is screaming at the top of his lungs. Brian excuses himself for a minute, goes to the hall and has a total break down. He is sobbing outside which gets the charge nurses attention. In my opinion nothing is as bad as the IV that was in his HEAD the first week of his life. I’ll take the hand, no problem. They finally get it started and strap his arm down. Thank God for George, Kaleb’s favorite monkey.

The give him Zofran for the nausea, fluids and start a heavy duty antibiotic. The first few hours were great. He was fast asleep….. We were relived he was finally getting some relief. At one in the morning Kaleb wakes up screaming… hungry… I suspect. They decide to let him have Pedialyte, one ounce at a time. This is my kid people! One ounce isn’t cutting it! He is screaming, crying, falling asleep sitting up and is inconsolable. Finally Brian gets fed up and climbs into his metal crib. Kaleb finally falls asleep on his chest.

Saturday May2 - Today: Kaleb is still randomly throwing up. His pediatrician which we have seen twice now believe he has my antibodies to penicillin and other medications like it, which always makes me sick to my stomach. He has one more dose medication to take today and I pray… we can go back to normal. I miss normal.
