Missing Parts

Friday, January 22, 2010

God looked down, another child complete,
A smile so perfect, a temper so sweet.
But baby looked and some parts were gone,
Did God mess up and make me wrong?
God just looked at this perfect child,
He explained Himself as He just smiled.
"If I'd taken time to make that part,
you wouldn't be such a work of art."
I would not have had time to make that smile,
To list your talents would last a mile.
Your sense of humor, that belly laugh,
Where are these parts, you have to ask?
You are so lucky, these gifts of gold,
Those missing parts are mine to hold.
Forever they'll be, close to my heart,
So as you live, we are never apart.
Each time I move, you'll be on my mind,
You special child, you are quite the find!
So do not miss that part, you see,
It will always be safe and sound with me."

Round II or III? I've lost count.

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

I am so sick and tired of posting "I'm so sick posts!" but again it monopolizes our life right now. That's right. I got up AGAIN puking for 18 hours. I don't know why. I have barely left the house and sanitized every inch of this one in some (probably dangerous) clorox/lysol combination. Maybe the Alli I've been taking since November? I'm losing weight and feel great most of the time so I'm not ready to blame that yet. Maybe after round 3 or 4 I'll really narrow down a suspect for my random sicknesses.

I was right about Kaleb. Gosh I love that feeling. I love feeling like I know what is going to happen next in his life. Ear infection? Check. Drool? Check. Puffy gums? Check. Molar? Check. My little baby boy has big boy teeth. I never thought seeing those teeth would be such a milestone and make me so sad all at the same time.

As we quickly approach 18 months Kaleb is advancing at the speed of light. I no longer feel the need to put the monitor on when I walk out of the bedroom. He can just get up when his nap is over now and come out to join us. He is obsessed with Mickey Mouse. We bought him a shirt with Mickey on it and he walks around rubbing his belly and smiling saying "Ouse, ouse" which I'm pretty sure is Mouse.

I'm hoping to get back to regular blogging since that is my resolution for 2010. Assuming I remember how to write with this long absence. I can't wait to tell more baby big boy stories!

Christmas 2009

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Christmas was amazing this year. Kaleb was such a joy to watch. He enjoyed every single minute of the two-day festivities. Christmas is the best in pictures:

Christmas Eve at B's Mom's house. Kaleb had the cutest sweater to go over that flannel.

Opening gifts here is CRAZY.

Our only picture because the kid never stopped running around

Kaleb never got to wear his red sweater. He threw up from running around after eating. He's sipping sprite here.

Later Christmas Eve at my grandma's house opening gifts with O

He loved playing with that giraffe. He's too short to pedal but he'll straddle it and hit the buttons.

Christmas morning came too early for both of them

And after playing all Christmas day... this is our sign that it's past his bedtime.

All the fun of Christmas was quickly forgotten on December 26th when Kaleb woke up after falling asleep and threw up in our bed. About 30 minutes later he fell asleep on my chest and then got sick all over me within minutes. Poor guy. I threw him in the tub (I figured it would make him feel better and clean him up). It did the trick. He was asleep within minutes and stayed that way. Whew.

Brian and I set up the couch in the living room for Brian and I laid down with Kaleb. At 5 am, I was over the toilet. I stayed that way for the next painful 24 hours. Oh my goodness. I am so very thankful for Brian who took care of Kaleb (who thankfully never got sick again) and my very sick self.

Fast forward to New Years Day. We are waiting in the Children's Hospital ER for Kaleb to be seen for his 104.5 degree fever. He has been off his antibiotic for less than 10 days and had developed an ear infection. My poor guy! They start a new course of more intense antibiotics that have some not-so-nice side effects. Every single time he's gotten an ear infection he's cutting teeth within two weeks. His back gums are white and puffy. Kaleb seems to be gnawing on toys, a habit he stopped a few months ago. Hello drool city.

It's been a rough start to 2010. But we are optimistic.

And waiting on spring.
